Philip Larkin memorial bench

At 2.00pm on Friday 2nd December 2022 the Philip Larkin memorial bench was unveiled to the public.

This unveiling marked the centenary of Philip Larkin’s birth, and took place on the anniversary of his death. The bench is placed at the point the where Philip Larkin and John Betjeman met in 1964. This meeting was recorded by the BBC.

Pete Lowden (FoHGC) and Graham Chester (Philip Larking Society) both said a few words before unveiling the bench.

The bench was purchased by the Friends of Hull General Cemetery, with a generous donation from the Philip Larkin Society.
